Activating your licence
Covers entering a key, what "one machine" means, and reinstalling.
Entering your licence key
- Open BitShot and go to PLACEHOLDER: menu path, e.g. Settings → Licence.
- Paste the licence key you received on the payment page after your order was confirmed.
- Select Activate. BitShot checks the key against the licence server once, then works fully offline for the rest of the 30-day period.
If you lost the page before copying your key, see the payment page — if you still have the order link, it will show your key again. If you lost the order link too, there is no way to recover it; see the FAQ.
What "one machine" means
A licence activates on a single machine at a time, identified by a hardware fingerprint generated on that device — not by your identity. Running BitShot on a second machine at the same time with the same key isn't supported and may cause the key to be flagged.
Reinstalling or changing hardware
Each licence key allows up to 3 activations over its lifetime. This covers reinstalling your OS, replacing a drive, or moving to new hardware within your 30-day period. Simply enter the same key again on the new install — no need to contact support.
If you've used all 3 activations and genuinely need another (for example, after a second hardware failure), contact support@bitshot.org. Since there's no account tied to your order, be ready to provide your order id and licence key so we can look up the activation history.
Common issues
- "Key not recognized" — check for extra spaces or line breaks from copy-pasting; the key is case-sensitive.
- "Activation limit reached" — you've used all 3 activations. Email support with your order id.
- "Licence expired" — your 30 days are up. Buy a new licence to keep scanning; nothing else about the app is affected.
- No internet during activation — activation itself needs one brief online check. After that, scanning works fully offline.
